The harvest season of the grapes is upon us and the sweet fruit the earth gives us bears stories of my family’s past and of my origins. My maternal grandparents and tias were agricultural workers picking fruits of all kinds, including grapes, during sweltering summer days in fields of Del Rey and Fowler, CA. These grapes or “uvas” reminds me of my relatives’ strife to provide for their families’ survival and the same challenges many agricultural workers are met with today in California.
